Convoluted Content

Wikis

Wiki is a great utilization of the expansive information ( & misinformation) available online. Though I often use Wikipedia for random bits of information, I rarely edit wikis. In high school, I worked at a law firm as an office assistant and often had time to spare. Upon Googling my employer's name "Chancy", I found his wiki-- and decided to update it with the information it lacked. After updating his site, I printed out the information and brought it into his office. Chancy was startled to see the amount of information provided, and even learned some about his family genealogy and notions regarding his contributions to the improvement in state law.

I see the largest obstacle with wikis being the access many people have to editing the information. Though pages without citations provide a warning notice, the information is still available to be absorbed by those not interesting putting in additional research effort. On a positive note, the constantly edited site allows for more current and accurate information, and often provides links to additional relevant wikis and websites.
