Having maintained a few different blogs, I understand the excitement of having someone stumble across then comment on your blog -- their feedback showed they felt the same. There's nothing more exciting then the notification that you have a new "follower" or that someone has posted a comment on your blog post!
For most, blogs serve as a medium to release some sort artist energy, express oneself to others that may be interested in their view point. Blogging allows those without the resources (& unfortunately skill) to broadcast their ideas to the world. In the times before the internet, if someone wanted an idea to circulate, they needed to have the power, money, and connections to make it happen. Blogs give everyone (with computer & internet access) a voice.
I definitely intend to use a blog for professional use in the future. Several photographers I have worked with maintain a blog of their images; companies maintain blogs for events and customer feedback; and groups/ organizations maintain blogs to further their ideas and teachings.
